Marc Gilbert, current Mayor Pro Tem, was elected to serve on the council in 2018. A Converse resident since 2000, he served 24 years in the US Air Force. He earned an A.A. in Personnel Management, a BSOE in Business Administration, and an M.A. in Management/Leadership. He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership at the University of the Incarnate Word. After retirement, he worked in the private sector before starting two small businesses. Prior to his work on the council, he was a member of the board of directors for the Converse Economic Development Corporation (EDC) for six years, serving as president for four of those years as well as serving as a member of the Converse Charter Review Commission in 2017. He has served as liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Historical Commission. He currently serves as a liaison to the Charter Review Commission and the Canyon Lake Regional Water Board. He is an active member of the Texas Municipal League (TML) and Texas Association of Black City Council Members (TABCCM).
