Responsibilities

The primary objective of the Building Department is to provide construction standards enforcement to safeguard health and property in the interest of public welfare. This is accomplished by:

  • Adopting model codes and standards
  • Checking building plans for compliance with code requirements
  • Inspecting the construction, alteration, moving, demolition, repair, and use of buildings and structures
  • Issuing contractor registrations and required permits
  • Maintaining department records
  • Performing inspections during construction
  • Reinforcing city ordinances        
  • Carport regulations         
  • NO GARAGE/YARD SALE PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER 4:00 PM

We are relocating our building permit operations to our new City HALL located at 406 S. Seguin.


Effective Thursday, January 10th, 2019 at 3 PM, the Community Development Department

will be issuing all building permits at the new City Hall, 406 S. Seguin, Converse, Texas, adjacent to the Police Department.

                                   

Fee change as of January 27th: see attached for details.

New Business Owner requirements- Certificate of Occupancy, Zoning Verification Letter, Inspection of structure.

Additional Services
The department supports and enforces the city's Code Of Ordinances in cooperation with the Planning and Zoning Commission and investigates and resolves complaints received by the public concerning alleged code violations.
